For the past couple of weeks, we've had a houseguest who is an insanely and excruxiatingly a fairly picky eater. However, I've managed to come up with a reasonably healthy (though still appealing to the ol' sweet tooth) trail mix that the average teenager can apparantly live on for days on end with no apparant ill effects. It makes a darned good alternative to donuts or peanut butter and crackers for that mid-morning break at work, too! Thought I'd share it here:
RISE ‘N’ SHINE TRAIL MIX
2 cups Cinnamon Chex
2 cups Honey Nut Cheerios
2 cups Golden Grahams
1 box granola (we like the cinnamon-flavored variety, but any will work)
2 pkgs. yogurt raisons
1 box raisons
2 cups honey roasted peanuts
1 10oz bag slivered almonds
Toss all ingredients together and eat – how easy is that?
I wanted to add dried cranberries, but the kids voted me down. Keep that in mind as an option, though. As is, it filled a gallon-sized glass jar to the brim, and was gone in 4 days. My son and his guest are at the store right now, buying supplies for another batch.
Behold the Mighty GothBoy, wielding The Jar of Power (and probably plotting to sneak it off to his room like he did the last batch):
